OBITUARY

LEONARD KUBIK

A Funeral Mass for Leonard Fred Kubik, 75, of Traer, was held at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer Thursday morning, Aug. 27, 1998 officiated by Father John Tilp. Burial was in the church cemetery. A scripture service was held Wednesday evening at Overton Family Funeral Home in Traer.

Leonard died at Sunrise Hill Care Center on Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998 following a long illness.

Casket bearers were Nick Kubik, Terry Goelder, David Kubik, Leon Zmolek, Richard Zmolek and Mike Kubik. Mass cards were tended to by Margo Kubik and Lori Fuller.

Serving as organist was Catherine McLean and floral tributes were handled by Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Stansbery and Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Earley.

Leonard Fred Kubik was born near Traer, IA on March 20, 1923, the son of Fred J. and Eleanor (Zmolek) Kubik. He received his education in country school and graduated from Traer High School in the Class of 1940.

Leonard then farmed with his father before entering the US Navy serving his during country during WWII. Following his discharge he returned to farming and on June 10, 1947, he married Minnie Kovarik at Tama. The couple made their home farming southwest of Traer.

In free moments Leonard was active in the National Farmers Organization, the Flying Farmers Association, was a member of the Polka Club and enjoyed playing cards.

He continued to live on the farm and worked in his trucking and shelling business following his divorce in 1972.

Leonard also worked with the wheat harvest in adjoining states and continued with his trucking business until his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion, K. D. Lodge #130 and St. Paul Catholic Church.

Preceding himn in death were his parents and a sister, Georgianna Uchytil. [Suvivors include] Rodney and Faythe Kubik of Waterloo; Dan and Pat Kubik of Clutier and Jeff Kubik of Grundy Center; three daughters, Mrs. John (Linda) Goeldner of Des Moines; Mrs. Dick (Chris) Ruzicka of Traer and Mrs. Steve (Cathy) Cox of Seattle, Wash; four brothers, Tony of Traer, Freddie of Clutier, Dr. Rudy of Independence and Robert of Springfield, MO , and seven grandchildren.
