Funeral services for Delbert D. Boldt, 67, of Traer were held Monday morning, Sept. 21, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer with burial in the church cemetery. Delbert died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Covenant Medical Center at Waterloo.

The Funeral Mass was officiated by Father John Tilp. Wayne Dunlavey served as vocalist and Carolyn Bohnstengel was organist.

Casket bearers were Jay Owens, Lyle Bitcon, Mike Reuman, Don Schellhase, LeRoy Wood and Richard Young. Honorary bearers included Loren Ewoldt, Milo Husak, Bob Podhajsky, Tony Renzo and Raymond Nelson.

Floral tributes were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hamilton, Mrs. LeRoy Wood, Louise Podhajsky and Mrs. Richard Young.

Delbert Dale Boldt was born Jan. 14, 1931, west of Traer, the son of Henry and Lizzie Boldt. He received his education in Crystal Township #5 until moving to Traer. He graduated from Traer High School in the Class of 1949.

At the age of 12 years Delbert folded papers for the Traer Star-Clipper and following graduation he worked as a bell hop at Russell Lamson Hotel in Waterloo and later for hotels in Rock Island and Peoria, Ill.

In the early 1950s Delbert returned to Traer and was employed at Cavalier Motor Company.

On Feb 17, 1951, Delbert was married to Betty Lou Barge at the Traer United Methodist Church. On Sept. 7, 1954, they purchased the Sunnyside Tavern and in 1973 they built the Golden Door Motel.

Delbert was an active member of Traer's main street and a strong supporter of Traer. He served on the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Traer Ambulance Service and as a volunteer fireman. He was also a substitute rural mail carrier and part-time worker at the Traer Liquor Store.

In free moments he enjoyed playing the drums, golfing and was a member of the Cedar Valley Polka Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Betty on Aug. 16, 1984; and two brothers.

He is survived by two sons and their wives, Marvin and Nancy and Terry and Mary, both of Traer; one daughter, Paty (Mrs. Glenn) Guzman, also of Traer; two brothers, Evan Boldt of Garwin and Harold Boldt of Waterloo and seven grandchildren.
