VORBA, Phyllis Elizabeth (1921 - 1981)

OBITUARY

Phyllis Elizabeth VORBA was born March 13, 1921, at Deep River, Iowa, daughter of Otto and Wilma (KELLER) BISSETT. Phyllis attended school in Deep River, graduating in the class of 1938. She then continued her education at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1942. Phyllis then taught school at Guernsey, Iowa, for two years before joining the Better Homes and Gardens magazine staff as a proof reader. In 1945 she began teaching English and typing at Traer. On June 13, 1940, Phyllis married Leslie VORBA at Dubuque, Iowa. The couple made their home in Traer, where Les operated the Phillips “66” gas station and Phyllis retired from teaching. After her husband’s death on August 28, 1977, Phyllis continued to live in Traer and remained active in the Federated Women’s club, Rosary Society, Legion Auxiliary, P. E. O. and served on the Library Board. In recent months Phyllis became ill and due to her failing health had been residing at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer where she died Tuesday, November 3, 1981, at the age of 60 years. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Wayne (Betty) GILLASPIE of Deep River, her nieces and nephews, and her many, many friends.
