DEKE, H. E. (1905 - 1985)

OBITUARY

Helmuth E. DEKE was born at Horton, Iowa, in Bremer County on January 23, 1905, son of Frederick and Minnie DEKE. Mr. DEKE attended school in Horton, Iowa, and later attended Wartburg College in Waverly. He then worked for the Ford dealer in Nashua before marrying Lucille VOGT at Waverly on May 16, 1920. In October of 1929, they moved to Traer where Mr. DEKE operated the Ford dealership in Traer until his retirement in 1971. In March of this year, Mr. DEKE entered Sunrise Hill Care Center due to failing health and on April 22, 1985, at the age of 80 years. Mr. DEKE was a member of the United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Traer Lions Club. He also served his community in different areas. He helped found the Sunrise Hill Care Center and also served on the board of directors; was chairman of the Traer Centennial in 1973, and served on the Traer School Board. Mr. DEKE was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one grandson. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; one son Dean of Traer; two daughters, Mrs. Sam (Shirley) BLASE of Annandale, Virginia, and Mrs. Gary (Sandra) DIERKS of Traer; as well as five grandsons.
