BURGHART, Mary Arlene (1916 - 1991)

OBITUARY

Mary Arlene BURGHART was born at Gladbrook, Iowa, December 26, 1916, the daughter of William and Elva Irene (MEYER) ENGEL. Arlene began her education in a country school, graduated from Traer High School in 1934, and continued her education at A. I. B. College in Des Moines. Arlene became employed in Des Moines and supported the war effort working in a munitions factory during WWII. She later returned to Traer, where she met and married William I. BURGHART on February 5, 1944. Arlene and Bill farmed for many years near Traer, retiring to Traer in March of 1973. Bill’s death came on April 18, 1974, and Arlene continued to make her home in Traer until recently. She was a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids, when her death came on Sunday, Nov. 3, 1991, at the age of 74 years. Arlene was a member of the Ripley United Church of Christ and Church Circle, the Alpha Club and Friends of the Traer Library. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William and one sister Twylah KEESE. Arlene is survived by her son William B BURGHART of Cedar Rapids; her daughter Mrs. Judy SCHRADER of Waterloo; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
