Rose BURHENN

A Funeral Mass for Rose BURHENN, 84, of Traer, was held Friday, Nov. 12, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Traer, with burial at the Dysart Cemetery. She died Monday, Nov. 8, at Sunrise Hill Care Center, where she had resided since August of this year.

The Rev. Thomas Purtell celebrated the Funeral Mass. Catherine McLean was organist and casket bearers were Ben HALUPNIK, Larry HALUPNICK, William KUBA, Cort Austin, Everett Moore and Donald Meggers. On the flower committee were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Karr. Mass cards were distributed by Betty Rund and Winifred HALUPNIK.

Rose Agnes BURHENN was born June 22, 1909, on a farm in Crystal Township in Tama County, the daughter of Joseph C. and Barbara (SEVCIK) HALUPNICK. Rose received her education at Crystal #6 country school, then was a housekeeper for several Cedar Rapids families.

Rose was married to Marvin RICHMOND in Traer, and they made their home in Dysart where they operated a restaurant. Marvin and Rose were later divorced. She was united in marriage to Clarence BURHENN in the late 1940s. They made their home at 802 Elm Street in Traer, and she was employed at various restaurants and businesses within the community. She continued to make her home in Traer after Clarence died in 1973.

Rose was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer. She was well known for her baking talents, especially her pies.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Marie BECK and Margaret HALUPNICK, and one brother, Leonard.

She is survived by one brother, Stanley HALUPNIK of Traer and three sisters, Tillie KUBA of Cedar Rapids, Dorothy FERGUSON of South Padre Island, Texas, and Barbara HARRISON of Bakersfield, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.

Overton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
