BOHNSTENGEL, Alvena E (1898 - 1995)

Obituary

Alvena E BOHNSTENGEL was born November 20, 1898 in Carroll Township near Clutier, Iowa; the eldest daughter of John and Mary (HACK) HALM. She attended rural schools in Oneida Township. On February 22, 1937 she was united in marriage to Edward BOHNSTENGEL at Vinton, Iowa. Ed and Alvena then bought a home at 501 1st Street in Traer where they lived for nearly 57 years. Following Ed’s death on September 6, 1991 she continued to live in her home until she moved to Sunrise Hill Care Center in June of 1994. Alvena’s death came at the care center on Thursday, September 12, 1996 at the age of 97 years. As a young girl she helped cut in any homes where their was a sickness. Alvena was an accomplished seamstress and did sewing for area residents. She also altered clothes for the men's clothing store for three owners. Alvena also helped her husband Ed in the family business which they owned for nearly 60 years. She was a member of Ripley United Church of Christ. Alvena was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, John, George and Elmer; two sisters; Elle BOLDT and Edna ZEARFOSS. She is survived by three nieces; Nadine DRUG of Mt Auburn, Iowa, Dorothy MYER of Aurora, Colorado and Mary Ann (Mrs. Richard) KAVALIER of Dysart and one nephew Don BOLDT of La Porte City, Iowa and many friends.

Following the service family and friends are invited to attend the luncheon at the Ripley United Church of Christ.
