BEENKEN, Robert H (1917 - 1992)

Funeral services for Robert H. BEENKEN, 74, of Buckingham, were held Friday, March 27 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Blessing, with burial at the church cemetery. He died Tuesday, March 24, 1992, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, after suffering from failing health for several months.

Officiating at rosary and scripture services held Thursday at Overton Funeral Home, was the Rev. Thomas Purtell. Celebrating the Funeral Mass was the Rev. Lawrence Guter. Organist was Noreen McDermott, and casket bearers were George BEENKEN, Jack BEENKEN, Daniel DOLAN, Orville BEENKEN, Kevin DOLAN and Mark Rauenhorst.

Robert Henry BEENKEN was born at Buckingham, Iowa April 17, 1917, the son of George and Marguerite (HAYES) BEENKEN. He received his education at Buckingham, then graduated from Traer High School in 1935. He farmed with his brother, Donald, before entering the U. S. Army, serving his country during World War II. Following his discharge, Bob returned to Buckingham Township, where he has since farmed. He had lived at his present home, located on Highway 63 north of Traer, for many years.

In his free moments, Bob enjoyed his cars, traveling, playing cards, eating out and especially visiting and spending time with family and close friends.

Bob was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Blessing, and Kubik-Finch Post, American Legion at Traer.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John.

He is survived by a brother, Donald of Traer; a sister, Mrs. Albert (Kathryn) DOLAN of Waterloo; a cousin, Marie McKENNA, who has been bob’s housekeeper for 45 years, and several nieces and nephews.
