Carl Austin Wilson was born at Jewell, Iowa on Feb. 5, 1899, son of W. Walter and Sophie (Keeler) Wilson. At an early age Carl moved with his family to the Traer area where he received his education later graduating from Iowa State University. After leaving college Carl returned home to farm and later owned and operated a radio repair shop, later purchased by Nagel T.V. Carl then began livestock farming on the Wilson home farm and on June 20, 1941, he married Evelyn Stoakes at the home of her parents at Traer. Carl and Evelyn made their home in Traer all of their married life, where Carl spent his free moments involved in the local adult and children's softball program for many years. Many will remember Carl as our local weather man keeping records for the National Weather Services for over 30 years as well as serving as deputy county assessor for Traer for many years. Carl and Evelyn both enjoyed traveling visiting many state and national parks across the country. Due to failing health Carl and Evelyn had been residing in Rochester to be near their daughter when Evelyn's death came on May 20, 1986. Carl continued to reside there. His death came at St. Mary's Hospital, Friday, Jan. 22, 1988, at the age of 88 years. Carl was a member of the United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn, one daughter Ruth, a brother Donald, and a sister Iris.
