William ALCORN (1905 - 1995)

William ALCORN was born December 8, 1905 in the county of Donegal in Ireland in the town of Dunfanaghy on the ocean. He was the son of Robert and Martha (MONTOGOMERY) ALCORN. William attended school in Ireland and on March 25, 1925 he came to the United States and settled at Traer, Iowa. William then began working as a farm hand for his uncles in the Traer area. On December 23, 1933 he was united in marriage to Cleo POWELL at Manchester, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed four years on a farm northwest of Traer, and later on a farm west of Traer for nine years. They then bought a farm north of Traer where they farmed until his retirement in 1970. In September of 1991 htey moved to Sunrise Terrace Apartments in Traer, and in September of 1993 he became a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center. William’s death came at the care center on Monday, April 3, 1995 at the age of 89 years. William was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge and Shriners and Eastern Star. He has served on the Traer School Board and Buckingham Township Trustee. William was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife Cleo, one son Howard of Buckingham, two daughters; Jean (Mrs. Rayfield) WELLMAN of Buckingham, and Marlys (Mrs. Max) DIETZE of Roseville, Minnesota; two brothers; Samuel of Ireland and Charles of Eugene, Oregon; one sister Fannie McKINLEY of Ireland, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
