In Memorium

Eliza J. Hutchins-Roach was born in Huron county, Ohio, March 25th, 1835; died at her home in Chelsea, Iowa, December 31st, 1890, being 55 years, 9 months and 6 days of age at time of her demise.

At the age of two years her parents moved to English Prairie, McHenry County, Illinois, where she lived until December 28th,1862, when she was married to Mr. Fred Roach and they settled in Mr. Roach’s home, Batesville, Ohio.

In 1865 Mr. and Mrs. Roach moved to Iowa, settling in Poweshiek county and the following year they took up residence in Chelsea, Tama county, where they have since resided.

Three children were born to them - Ione, Mattie and Lulu-the latter died at the age of five months, Mattie and Ione still survive. Mrs. Roach was converted to Christ and united with the church about twenty-three years ago, and during her protracted illness of nearly twenty years she manifested the spirit of a devout, consistant christian.

Kind and affectionate in her family circle, generous and hospitable to her friends and to strangers always courteous and considerate, during her life she had gathered around her a large circle of warm friends who will sadly mourn her loss. Her earthly end was a peaceful one - peace with her fellow-creatures; peace with her God. Rest in peace.

Her remains were interred in the Odd Fellow’s cemetery to await the summons of the Resurection Morn.”
