Born Dec 20, 1897, at Iowa City, IA; son of Dr. Curtis H. and Minnie S. Brown. Enlisted July, 1918 at Ft. Sheridan; entered Ft. Sheridan; transferred to State Normal; first entered Co. I. Mustered out Dec 31, 1918, from Co. 1 and 2. Commissioned at Fort Sheridan; made personnel adjutant. Second Lieutenant.
