Member Co. I, I.N.g., 1909 to 1910; member 1st Iowa Cavalry on Mexican Border, 1916.

Commissioned Second Lieutenant, Cavalry, Aug 15, 1917 at Fort Snelling. Member F Co., 349th Inf., 88th Div., 1st Caisson Co., 313th Amm. Tr., S. Co., 163rd Depot Brigade.

Reported for training as pilot in School of Aeronautics March 2, 1917; flying at Kelly Field; Commanding Officer, Sq. H, per S.O., 23rd Hq., at Kelly Field Jan 23, 1919. Post Field, Fort Sill for Corps dÕArmee Pilot course Feb 3, 1919. Detailed Supply Officer, Training Dept., per Memo 68, Training Dept., Post Field, Feb 17, 1919; graduated course Corps d'Armee Feb 27, 1919.
