THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, January 24, 2006.

Conrad F. Berhow, 73, Ames, died Saturday, Jan. 22, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Bethesda Lutheran Church with the Rev. Randy Gehring officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Conrad Berhow was born Sept. 7, 1932, in Ames to Fredrick C. and Ruth (Froland) Berhow. He lived in Ames most of his life, but also resided in Sterling, Ill., Loveland, Colo., and Longmont, Colo. He worked in the plumbing, pipefitting and sheet metal industry for 35 years. He was field superintendent and project manager for Waldinger Corp., Des Moines. He then worked at Iowa State University facilities planning and management for 11 years, retiring as the construction project manager in September 1994.

He married Joyce Abbott July 5, 1959. She preceded him in death in 1985. He married Marianne (Meyer) Dougal Dec. 7, 1986. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church where he served on the building committee and properties board. He was also a member of Local 33 of the Plumbing and Steamfitters Union and the American Welding Society. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, reading, traveling and especially fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Marianne Berhow of Ames; one son, Jeff of Ames and his daughter, Christie Berhow and her son Caleb of Maquoketa; one daughter, Kris Ann (Mark) Gabrielson and their children Ryan, Kyle and Jack of Overland Park, Kan.; one stepdaughter Linda (Bert) Watson and their daughter, Sarah, of DeWitt; one stepson, Gregor (Connie Howard) Dougal and their children Michael and Laura of Minneapolis; two sisters, Ramona Widener of Sonora, Calif., and Janice Berhow of Kelley; and one brother Ron Berhow of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce, and his parents.

A visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Bethesda Lutheran Church.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Bethesda Lutheran Church or Israel Family Hospice House.
