Mary Drake was born April 27, 1819, in Washington county, Penn, and died in Maxwell, Iowa, March 13, 1904, aged eighty-four years, ten months and sixteen days. She was united in marriage to Robert M. Scott, January 15, 1846, to this union was born seven childern: Eliza J., Wm., B., Anna M., Jacob D., Margaret C., E. James and Sarah E.
Mrs. Scott united with the Presbyterian church in 1858 and remained in it until 1865 when the family came to Iowa, at which time they placed their memebership in the old Christian church, until they came to Story county and as there was no organization of this kind here they cast their lot with the Cumberland Presbyterian church, of Maxwell, in which she remained until death.
Mrs. Scott was preceeded to the spirit world by four daughters, she leaves three sons and an aged husband to mourn her loss.
Mrs. Scott was a lady who was highly honored and respected by all who knew her. She had suffered a great deal in life but was ever patient and endured it all without murmuring. She had been in fairly good health, for one of her age, for sometime, until a few weeks ago she was striken with paralysis and other complications also set in, from which she gradually grew weaker, until last Sunday morning when she finally succumbed to her disease.
Mrs. Scott was blessed with many years of life, having passed the four score years, and her entire life was devoted to noble principles. The reward of so many years of service to her God and fellowmen will certainly be a rich one. The aged husband and family have the sincere sympathy of all in their great bereavement.
The funeral was conducted at the C. P. church Monday at 2:00 p. m. by Rev. Clay Bobbitt, assisted by Rev. G. E. Roberts and interment was made in the Maxwell cemetery.
