UNKNOWN NEWSPAPER
Robert M. Scott was born in Allegheny county, Pennslyvania, August 19, 1823, and departed this life at the home of his son E. J. Scott, at Ash Grove, Missouri, December 18, 1914, at the age of ninety-one years, three months and twenty-nine days. On January 15, 1845, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Drake. To this union were born seven children, and only two sons, W. B., living near Maxwell, and E. J., of Ash Grove, Missouri, survive him; his wife, four daughters and one son having preceded him to the spirit world.
While his family was young, he decided to move westward, and in the spring of 1876, he came to Lee county, Iowa, and in the fall of the same year, he removed to Jasper county, settling near Newton. There they remained until 1879 when they came to Story county, having purchased a farm on which they lived until the spring of 1891, when deciding to retire from farm life, Mr. and Mrs. Scott moved to Maxwell, where they resided until the death of Mrs. Scott, which occurred March 13, 1904; after her death, Mr. Scott made his home with his sons until 1907, when E. J. and family moved to Missouri, and he accompanied them, and there made his home until his departure for which he was amply prepared. He united with the Presbyterian church early in life, but upon moving to Missouri, placed his memebership with the Church of Christ.
Besides the two sons, he leaves twenty seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many relatives and friends who remember him as a friend ever ready to extend a helping hand.
Short funeral services were held at Ash Grove, Missouri, and the body was brought to Maxwell, accompanied by his son, E. J.; services were held at the Church of Christ Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Dr. E. J. Nickerson, and interment was made in the Maxwell cemetery. A large number of sorrowing friends were present to pay their last tribute of respect to a departed neighbor and friend.Card of Thanks
The relatives of the late R. M. Scott desire to take this method of thanking their many friends for sympathy and kindly assistance rendered to them during their bereavement.
