Lova Brown died in her sleep Tueday, Jan. 3, in Henderson, Nev. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, Ward Van Slyke Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., in Clear Lake.

Lova Brown, 82, of Clear Lake, died Monday, Jan. 2, at TLC Care Center in Henderson, Nev. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., in Clear Lake with the Rev. Tom Christian officiating. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Lova Mae McLaughlin was born Jan. 17, 1923, in Waverly, Kan., to Clayton and Marie (Bever) McLaughlin. Her parents moved the family to a farm near Minburn when she was a young girl, and she graduated from high school at Washington Township School in Dallas County. She then continued her education at Simpson College in Indianola and graduated with a bachelor of music degree.

She loved music. She and her twin sister, Lola, entertained on radio back in the early 1940s when radio stations still had live entertainment. They were known as the "Mac Twins," and they sang and played the piano at KFNF, Shenandoah and later at WNAX in Yankton, S.D. The act broke up when her sister married and moved away, but Lova continued to work in radio on the office staff of various stations, including KFI in Los Angeles. While there, she married Robert Grover Brown, originally of Shenandoah, May 23, 1953, at the Little Country Church of Hollywood.

Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Ames, where Grover had taken a position on the electrical engineering faculty at Iowa State University. They remained in Ames until he retired in 1989. They moved to Clear Lake, where they had maintained a summer home for many years.

While in Ames, Lova became interested in women's four-part harmony music. She helped organize a Sweet Adelines chorus in the 1960s, and she both directed the chorus and sang in a quartet for many years before moving to Clear Lake. In Clear Lake, she helped organize a Sweet Adelines group, and this group eventually evolved into the Music City Sweet Adelines Chorus. In addition to directing, she also arranged Sweet Adelines music, and the Music City Chorus still uses some of her arrangements in its annual shows.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Grover Brown; two daughters, Janet Neumann and Lori Richardson; a very special niece (daughter of her late twin sister, Lola) Jennifer McLaughlin; two granddaughters, two grandsons, and two special great-nephews. She also leaves behind many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents two brothers; and two sisters.

She was a wonderful wife, mother and person. She had many friends in the North Iowa area as well as Ames. All of her family and friends will miss her very much.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake is in charge of arrangements.
