THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, January 3, 2006.
Mildred L. Archer, 72, of Ames, died Saturday, Dec. 31, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, following a long illness. A joint funeral service for Mildred and her husband, LaVerne Archer, who died June 7, 2005, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames with the Rev. John Anderson officiating. A graveside service will follow in Ames Municipal Cemetery with military rites for LaVerne, conducted by American Legion, Post 37.
Mildred was born April 2, 1933, in rural Ames to George and Rosa (Nelson) Rasmussen. She married LaVerne Archer Oct. 12, 1955, in Sturgis, S.D. They moved to Ames in 1959 to be close to her family. She worked at Bourns Inc. for 33 years. Her special loves were animals, family, collecting, fishing shows and going to and holding garage sales. She enjoyed helping other people, family and friends in any way that she could, and she also was a friend to all animals.
She is survived by two daughters, Pat (Jim) Rackler of Nevada and Deb (Dan) Baker of Ames; one stepson, David Houston of Fulton, Mo.; one grandson, Bryce (Sarah) Hinderaker of Council Bluffs; one great-granddaughter, Kali Hinderaker; three sisters, Mary Smith, Agnes Lawson and Georgia (Jennings) Capellen, all of Ames; two brothers, Pete (Amaya) Rasmussen of San Diego and John (Barb) Rasmussen of Ames; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, James; and one sister, Florence Lewis.
A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames with the family present.
