Ole Ingval Haaland passed away peacefully on December 25, 2005 of leukemia at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services were Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg.

Ole was born December 17, 1917 near Nevada, Iowa and farmed for over 30 years near McCallsburg. He served in World War II in the 951st Field Artillery Battalion, crossed into Normandy Beach on June 12th and celebrated his birthday on the eve of the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He forged life-long friendships renewed each summer at the 951st Army Reunion held across the United States.

He was active in the Masons in Story City and served as Grandmaster for four years.

Ole was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Anna. Those left to celebrate his life are his daughters, Karen Cory and husband Lew of Des Moines, Virginia DeHaan and husband Doug of West Des Moines, and son David Haaland and wife Colette of Nevada; as well as grandsons, Sean, Ryan, and Ian Cory and granddaughters, Rachel and Kati and six great grandchildren, Emily, Nick, Alex, Saber, Keura and Capri. He also leaves two brothers, Juel Haaland of Ames and Tillet Haaland of Osage. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

The family received friends from 5-7 on Tuesday at the Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City, with a Masonic Service at 6:30. The family also received friends at the church Wednesday. Ole was deeply loved by the many whose lives he touched and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
