Joel Craig Whitehead, 54 of Nevada died on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Friday, December 23 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Brice Hughes officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memory Gardens north of Nevada.
Joel was born on July 6, 1951 in Ames to Walter G. and Marjorie L. (Mitchell) Whitehead. He was a 1971 graduate of Nevada High School. In 1976, Joel married Regina Backoff in Nevada. He was employed as a driver for Minnesota Valley Testing and at Tailgater's in Nevada. Joel was a member of the First Christian Church in Nevada. He enjoyed sports, camping, fishing, and playing on the computer. Joel was a Little League umpire.
Joel is survived by his mother, Marjorie Whitehead; his loving companion, Pam Weuve and her children, Melissa and Adam; 2 sons, Joseph (J.J.) Whitehead and Jason Whitehead; a daughter, Amanda Jo Whitehead; a brother, Lowell (Ernie) and Lori Whitehead, all of Nevada; 2 sisters, Carol (Skinny) Thompson of Nevada and Sheila (Rick) Erickson of McCallsburg; 3 grandchildren, Brett, Brook and Leslie Whitehead.
Joel was preceded in death by his father, Walter on March 6, 2000.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada was entrusted with Joel's arrangements.
