THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, December 28, 2005.

Nova William Searcy, 74, of Nevada, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Memorial Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Burling officiating.

Nova was born Nov. 19, 1931, in Haseville, Mo., to Walter and Charlotte F. (Ishamel) Searcy. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Norma Coon July 16, 1955, in St. Joseph, Mo. He had been employed by H & F in Ames, Max Armstrong and Ryerson John Deere Implement in Nevada. He was a member of the Ames American Legion Post and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed camping, square-dancing and working with his hands.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Searcy of Nevada; three sons, Nova Eugene (Phyllis) of Huxley, Mike and Jeff (January Rolow), all of Ames; one daughter, Mary (Bruce) Oppedal of Nevada; two brothers, Billy and Jim Searcy; five sisters, Dorothy, Louise Renfro, Kathleen Gibson, Betty Murphy and Norma Hobbs, all of Missouri; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and three brothers.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday, Dec. 30, at the church.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
