THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, December 18, 2005.

Donald Lee Roberts, 79, of Colo, died Thursday, Dec. 15, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, where he had been living since 2002. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Burial will be in the Colo Cemetery with military honors given by the Colo American Legion.

Donald was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Taintor, the son of Harry and Reva (Allee) Roberts. He married Doris "Evelyn" Allbaugh Dec. 24, 1954, in Oskaloosa. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked with heavy equipment and earthmoving for Armstrong Construction and for 22 years for Wes McDaniel Earthmoving. He worked for Story County secondary roads as a machine operator until he retired in 1992. He was former member of the Colo Red Hots and Nevada Whirlers Square Dance Clubs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Colo; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Mark DeShong of Ogden; three grandchildren, Andrew, Brad and Nathan DeShong; one brother, Fred Roberts of Eddyville; and one sister, Henrietta Hols of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Phyllis Christ and Mary Jane Davis; and one sister-in-law, Lila Roberts.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Memorials may be made to Iowa Veterans Home Hospice Care.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
