THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, December 18, 2005.

After a lifetime as a beloved daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, Beverly Elaine Allfree, 76, of Story City, died Friday, Dec.16, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20, at First United Methodist Church in Ames with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Beverly was born on Nov. 5, 1929, in Newton to Donovan and Ella (Anthony) Emmeck. She attended schools in and near Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1948. She married Richard W. Allfree April 17, 1949, at Metz Church in Metz. Although the small church southeast of Newton was several decades old at that time, they were the first couple to be married there.

During the early years of her married life, she worked as a secretary at Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance in Des Moines. She and Richard moved to Ames in 1952, where they raised their family. In 1973, she started working for Iowa State University, where she was a secretary in various academic departmental offices until she retired in 1991. The couple relocated to Story City in 1992.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church in Ames. She enjoyed activities with her family, and she liked to sew, crochet, cross-stitch and embroider.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years; two daughters, Kim Hasstedt and Jill Stasak of Ames; three sons, Guy Allfree of Denver, Colo., Craig (Rocky) Allfree of Des Moines and Kirk Allfree of Mesa, Ariz.; four granddaughters, Kelly and Katie Hasstedt of Ames and Indyca and Dakotah Allfree of Mesa; one grandson, Kristopher Hasstedt of Ames; one daughter-in-law, Jana Allfree of Mesa; one brother, Mark Emmeck and sister-in-law, Phyllis Emmeck of Newton; and longtime friend, Lynn Nehls of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Chris.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Israel Family Hospice House.
