George W. Overgaard, 74 of Ames, IA, died Monday of a ruptured Aneurysmat Mary Greeley Medical Center. Memorial services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, with the Rev. Lenwood Monte officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
George Overgaard was born in Ames, IA, to Peter and Dorothy Overgaard. He married Dorothy(Warren) Carr on Sep 14, 1962 in Omaha, NE. A lifetime resident of Ames,he had been a maintenance technician for the city’s water department for 35 years. He retired in 1984. During World War II, he had served in the U.S. Army in Italy and North Africa. He was a member of the Ames American Legion Post No. 37.
He is survived by his wife of Ames; his mother of Fort Myers, FL; two sons, Bob Carr of Houston, TX, and Larry Carr of Welch, MN; a daughter, Patsy Heady of Beaverton, OR; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Welch of Des Moines, IA, and Marie McCoy of Carmel, CA; and a foster brother, Gary Carr of Fort Dodge.
He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter.
Stevens Memorial Chapel, Ames, is in charge of arrangements.
