Bernice "Bernie" Sills, 76, of Ames, IA, died of a heart attack Thursday, Sep 21, 2000, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Digby, First Christian Church of Ames, officiating. The body was cremated and burial well be at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Bernie Sills was born April 17, 1924, in Ames, IA, the son of Clarence James and Ethel Flora (Warren) Sills. He was a 1943 graduate of Ames High School and a lifetime resident of Ames. He was a graduate of Greer Technical Piano School. He was a piano technician for Eschbach Music from 1947 to 1951; after that a postal clerk for 30 years. He retired in 1981. He was in the U. S. Army, World War II. He married Roma Rae Berges June 25, 1947, in Ames, IA. He was a life-long member of First Christian Church in Ames, charter member of the Ames Golden K Kiwanis, National Association of Federal Employees, Ames Post No. 37 of the American Legion, Ames Post Credit Union and an active band, orchestra and drum and bugle crop member at Ames High School.
Survivors include his wife, Roma Rae Sills; Daughter and son-in-law, Linda Ann and Colin Halterman, Peachtree City, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Cay Sills, Stoughton, WI, daughter, Carm Sills, Marshalltown, IA,; brother, Paul Sills of Camarillo, CA, and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gerald and Raymond Sills.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Adams Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Ames High School music department.
