THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, November 27, 2005.
Evangeline Gladys Henson, 84, of Colo, died Nov. 23 at Jersey Ridge Place in Davenport. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Tom Poppe officiating. Burial will be in Collins Evergreen Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 31, 1921, in Cass County to Harry and Dolly Dressler. She married Charles Henson Aug. 26, 1944.
A graduate of Anita High School, she earned a two-year teaching certificate from Drake University in 1941. Her first teaching position was at Maxwell. She graduated with a bachelor of science in elementary education from Drake University in 1967.
She taught in the Nevada School System for 25 years before she retired in 1987. After retiring, she was a substitute teacher in Colo and Nevada. She lived in Colo for many years before moving to Davenport in March 2005.
She was a member of Nevada Assembly of God Church and spent many years working with children's ministries there. She was a member of WO Club of Colo. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she kept up on their activities and enjoyed going to see them.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Eugene Henson; her stepmother, Helen Dressler; one daughter, Sandra Martin and her husband, Bob; two sons, Randy Henson and his wife, Lin, and Larry Henson and his wife, Barbara; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Gary Eugene Henson; and one brother, Arnold Dressler.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.
