Robert Stumbo, 84, of Ogden died Friday, Nov. 4, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005 at the Bethel Church in rural Boone with Rev. D. Ray Hoke officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Robert was born in Marcy Township in rural Boone County on June 3, 1921, the son of Edgar and Delpha (Dugan) Stumbo. He married Leora Erickson on Sept. 1, 1941, at the Bethel Church. He served with the United States Army during World War II. From 1948 to 1984, he was employed with Northern Natural Gas as a land surveyor and real property specialist. He retired in 1984.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, trench digging and playing guitar and singing with his wife at area nursing homes. He was a member of the Bethel Church, Gideon's International and the National Rifle Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leora, and a brother Paul. He is survived by his three sons, Robert Stumbo, Jr., and wife, Lorraine, of Ames; Terrance "Terry" Stumbo and wife, Janet, of Staples, Minn., and Lance "Lanny" Stumbo and wife, Barbara, of Ogden; a brother, Milo Stumbo and wife, Eleanor, of Boone; a sister, Vera "Sally" Myers, of Madrid; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Bethel Church where the family will be present to receive friends. Visitation continues from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the church.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone is in charge of arrangements.
