MRS. WILSON WAS REAL PIONEER
Last week we had a brief notice of the death of Mrs. J. F. Wilson, which occurred at her home near Ihlen, Minn., Friday morning, Aug. 8th. The following additional facts of her life are gained from the account printed in the Pipestone Star last week:
Mrs. J. F. Wilson
The death of Mrs. J. F. Wilson, pioneer resident of the Ihlen vicinity, occurred about 9:15 o'clock on Friday morning, August 8th. Mrs. Wilson was overcome with the heat over a week ago and this, with complications, caused her death.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home of her son, E. G. Wilson at 2:30 o'clock and at the Zion Lutheran church in Ihlen at 3:00 o'clock. Rev. A. C. Anderson of Jasper conducted the services and the burial was in the Ihlen cemetery. Five grandsons and one grand son-in-law served as pall bearers. They were Willard Wilson, Pipestone; James Wilson, Jasper; Clayton Wilson, Ihlen; Arnold Udstuen, Minneapolis; Lawrence Peterson, Ihlen, and Elwood J. Osberg, Minneaplis.
Martha Caroline Sheldall [sic] was born on August 31, 1859 at Randall, Iowa, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Sheldall. She was married on March 18, 1881 to Jacob F. Wilson at Randall, and the couple made their home there until 1886 when they moved to Pipestone county and homesteaded on a farm just east of Ihlen, where they made their home until their deaths occurred. Mr. Wilson passed away on December 16, 1907, on his 52nd birthday.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by the following children: Lewis H., E. Gerard, Mrs. Anna Moore, Mrs. Helen Peterson and Martin B., all of Ihlen; Mrs. Bess Tosterud, New Kensington, Pa., and Mabel Wilson of Dallas, Texas; 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. One son, James, age 11 years, and an infant daughter, preceded their mother in death.
The deceased was a member of the Zion Lutheran church and Ladies Aid.
All of the children were with their mother, when her death occurred.
Among the large number of people who attended the funeral were the following relatives from in and around Story City.
Messrs. and Mesdames O. H. Henderson, M. O. Johnson and C. J. Teig, Mrs. A. E. Henderson and Erick Henderson, all of Story City; Mrs. Swen T. Larson, Mrs. Isabelle Olson and Fred Wilson of Roland; Henry Teig of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. Lars Wicks and Charlotte of Radcliffe, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Peterson of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Teig of Blue Earth, Minn.
