MRS. OLE LUND WAS PIONEER SETTLER
Sarah Martha Knutson Aabe was born in Sevde, Norway, Feb. 2, 1854. Her parents were Christopher Knutson Aabe and Marie Holland Knutson.
She died in the Story City hospital at 1:30 p.m. May 10, 1941, having reached the ripe age of 87 years, 3 months and 8 days. She had been in failing health for several years and was confined to her bed for three months.
She came to America with her parents and brother in 1870 and settled in Ellsworth township, Hamilton county, Iowa.
She was married to Ole Lund on September 20, 1879. They started housekeeping on the old homestead five miles northwest of Story City, where they resided for forty years. In 1920 they moved to Story City, where her husband died in 1931. She lived in their town residence until 1937 when she entered the Sunset Home. Mr. and Mrs. Lund celebrated their golden wedding in 1929.
To this union were born nine children; of these six survive her. Two children died in infancy, and Henry, who died at the age of 35 years. She leaves four daughters and two sons: Mrs. Mary Dyvig of Ames, Mrs. Bertha Torkelson and Theodore Lund of Story City, Ole C. Lund of Jewell, Mrs. Emily Christenson of Omaha and Mrs. Mabel Olson of Los Angeles. She also leaves 15 grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held May 14, with prayer service at the Sunset Home chapel, followed by the rites in Immanuel church, Rev. T. T. Heimarck officiating. Six grandsons were casket bearers.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Dr. and Mrs. Shiffler, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Southern, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Parkins, Mrs. Chas. Vetz, Mrs. O. P. Skidmore and Mrs. W. Crosten, all of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Knutson of Clarion; Arthur Lund of Selfridge Field, Mt. Clemmons, Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Olson and son Carroll of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Christenson of Omaha, Neb.
