OBITUARIES

L. C. KAHRS

Lauritz Christian Kahrs was born near Bergen, Norway, on April 24, 1867, and died in Story City, Iowa, on March 9, 1940.

At the age of 17 years, he was confirmed in the Mangers' church, Norway, in the Lutheran faith to which he remained faithful thruout his life.

He was a seaman for 10 years on the ocean and 7 years on the Great Lakes.

On Dec. 20, 1888, he was united in marriage to Caroline Munson, who died on July 25, 1894. This union was blessed with three children, Mrs. Hilda Peterson of Vancouver, Wash., Mrs. Dora Leerberg of Hubbard, and one son, Jacob, who preceded him in death in infancy.

In October, 1895, he was married to Marie Olson, daughter of Gjermund Olsen, a pioneer of Story county. She went to her reward July 16, 1922.

Mr. Kahrs, with his family, lived on a farm in Hardin county until in 1914 he moved to Story City, at which place he had resided until the present time.

On October 3, 1923, he was married to Mrs. Theo. Rasmussen of Roland, Iowa.

He leaves to mourn his departure, besides his devoted wife and two daughters, nine grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a host of friends and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were held for Mr. Kahrs Wednesday afternoon, March 13, with Rev. Nelson officiating at the home and in the St. Petri church, Rev. G. Smedal of Wyoming, Minn., also spoke fitting words in appreciation of the deceased. The choir sang two songs.

Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery near Hubbard, the pall bearers being: A. G. Larson, Theo. Larson, S. S. Wierson, Sven Nessa, Rasmus Rasmussen and Lars Ihle.

Knutson and Mr. and Mrs. F. Lake of Iowa Falls; H. B. Knutson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Nering, Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Wasson, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hovis, Mr. and Mrs. T. K. Townley, Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Harris, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Townley, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Vellsmeier and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Winter, all of Hubbard, also, as stated above, Rev. Smedal of Wyoming, Minn.
