OBITUARY

HANS GROTNES

Hans Arnesen Grotnes was born to Arne and Maghild Grotnes on the thirtieth day of March in the year 1902 in Sanhorland, Norway. He died suddenly at his home Sunday morning, May 17, 1964, at the age of 62 years, 1 month and 17 days. He was one of five children born to this marriage.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended school in Sonhorland and received advanced education at Hadsnary at Kloster, Norway, in Botany.

In 1926 at the age of 24 he came to the United States where he made his home with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Grotness and their family in Story City.

On the 15th day of July, 1933 he was joined in marriage to Pearl Sylvina Quam at Galena, Illinois. They made their home in Story City. This union was blessed with two children, Patricia and Milford.

For over 30 years his occupation was that of a mason. At the time of his death he was employed at the Atomic Energy Commission in Ames.

He was a faithful member of the Bethel Lutheran Church and was associated with various activities in the church and community.

Preceding him in death were his mother and father. Surviving are his wife Pearl; his daughter, Patricia Williams and his son Milford; daughter-in-law, Barbara; two grandsons, Todd Gregory Williams and Matthew Alan Grotnes. Living in Norway are his step-mother, Mrs. Arne Grotnes, three sisters, Mrs. Matias Oa, Mrs. Peter Utne and Mrs. Harold Haroldson; three half sisters, Mrs. Maghild Ersland, Mrs. Olaf Stedal and Mrs. Arthur Gjesdahl; one half brother, Johan Grotnes; and one brother Andrew, Winlock, Washington, USA.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 20, at Bethel Lutheran church, Story City, with the Rev. Q. Quanbeck in charge. Mrs. Robert Eischen, organist, accompanied Mrs. Benjamin Anderson and Theodore Quam as they sang, "Den Store Hvide Flok," and "God's Ways." Pallbearers were Otis Frette, Harry Jacobson, Elmer Jensen, Clifford Soren, Edward Colnes, Duane Orcutt. Burial was at Story City Municipal Cemetery.
