Susie Elizabeth Keehnel, 102, of Ankeny and formerly of Slater, died Oct. 26, 2005, at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny.
Susie was born to Henry and Nellie V. (Dallas) Venn in St. Joseph, Mo, on Feb. 24, 1903. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1921. She married John Glenn Morgan in 1922, and from this union two daughters were born. Susie then married Martin Luther Keehnel in 1945. She lived in California from 1936 to 1998, moving to Slater for six years. In California, she worked at the McAnlly Chicken Ranch.
Susie enjoyed music and played the piano and organ for church. She also enjoyed bird watching, camping, and she was a seamstress.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 31, at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ankeny with Pastor David Lincoln officiating. She was buried at Slater Municipal Cemetery in Slater.
Immediate survivors include one daughter, Lucy Schaudt, of Slater; one stepson, Harold Keehnel; two brothers, Elbert Venn, of Portland, Ore., and Corwin Venn, of Santa Paula, Calif.; two sisters, Naomi Haskell, of Torrence, Calif., and Marian Webster, of Mingo; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Keehnel on May 11, 1993; her parents; a sister, and a daughter Eunice Kendall.
Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater was entrusted with arrangements.
