OBITUARY OF MRS. G. G. MYRE
The following account of the funeral and life of Mrs. G. G. Myre is taken from the Courier of Colton, S. D.
Funeral services for Mrs. G. G. Myre, who passed away Dec. 23, at the age of 76 year, 6 months and 15 days, were held on Friday afternoon, Dec. 27, at 1:30 o'clock at the home and at 2 o'clock at the First Lutheran church, Rev. K. B. Vaaler officiating.
The pastor very fittingly chose as his text Luke 2:35-30. Lawrence Larson of Arlington, a son-in-law of the deceased sang a solo, "Nearer My God to Thee." Miss Esther Bardahl also sang a solo in Norwegian. Beautiful flowers adorned the casket, placed there by loving hands in memory of the departed. A sum of money was also given to the missions in her memory.
The remains were laid to rest in the Bethania cemetery, near Colton. Her four sons, Peder, Gust, Lars and Hilmer Myre, and two sons-in-law, Andrew Berge and Lawrence Larson, were pallbearers.
Sonneva Skeie was born in Kvinherred, Norway June 8, 1859, of the parents, Peder and Ingrid Skeie. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Kvinherred church. In the spring of 1884 she came to the United States, and on May 4, the same year, was united in marriage to G. G. Myre at Elliott, Ill. Two years later they moved to Roland, Iowa, and made their home on farms in the vicinity of Roland and Story City for 23 years. They moved to South Dakota and have made their home in Colton and vicinity for the past 27 years.
To this union nine children were born. The oldest daughter, Inger Margaret, passed away at the age of 5 years. The husband and eight children are left to mourn the loss of a kind, loving Christian wife and mother. The children are: Peder, Gust, Hilmer, Boleta (Mrs. A. Berge), all of Colton; Malinda (Mrs. A. J. Henryson), Story City, Iowa; Margaret (Mrs. Henry Olson), Oklee, Minn.; Carrie (Mrs. Lawrence Larson) Arlington, and Lars Myre of Garretson.
She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, two sisters, Ingrid Orwick, Orwick, Norway, and Marie Skeie, Rosendal, Norway; and two brothers, Peder Skeie, Malta, Mont., and John Skeie, Roland, Iowa.
Mrs. Myre had been failing in health the past year, but had not been seriously ill up until the last three months. She was a very patient sufferer. All that medical aid could do was done for her. She was tenderly cared for by her husband and children, who were present at her bedside when she peacefully passed away, firm in the faith of her Lord and Savior. Blessed be her memory.
Among those who came from a distance to attend the funeral were: Mrs. Frances Jacobson, Mrs. Jacob Jacobson, Minda Nibakken, Richard Jacobson and Mrs. Clarence Vermillion, all of Sioux Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Lars Myre and family of Garretson; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Larson and daughters of Arlington; Miranda Larson of Sinai; Mrs. A. J. Henryson and Gaylord Henryson of Story City, Iowa.
