THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, October 29, 2005.

Robert Laddie Locke, 85, formerly of Clarion, died Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Heartwood House. A visitation will be at the Adams Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, in Ames. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 31, in Clarion at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.

Robert Locke was born March 18, 1920, in Rutland to Byron and Ione (Coffin) Locke. He grew up on a dairy farm north of Gilmore City and graduated from Bradgate High School.

He married Ethel Davis (Gilmore City) in 1945 at Anacortes, Wash. Locke served his country during World War II in the Naval Air Corp at Whidbey Island, Wash., and the Aleutian Islands. After being discharged, he attended Iowa State University, graduating in agronomy. Upon graduation, he was employed in Clarion for 15 years with the Wright County Soil Conservation Service. He then worked as a farm manager and real estate broker with the Sandage Companies in Clarion and in Ames until retirement.

While in Clarion, Robert was a past trustee of First United Methodist Church, president of the Clarion School Board and a member of the Wright County Conservation Board. He is currently a member of the American Legion in Clarion, First United Methodist Church in Ames, the ISU Alumni Association, and Order of the Knoll.

Robert's greatest love in life was his family. He enjoyed baseball, golf, fishing, and all ISU sports.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Locke, of Ames; two daughters, Becky (Thomas) Deimerly of Marshalltown and Julie Nail (Nickolas - deceased) of Fort Dodge; one son, Robert (Debra) Locke of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren, Aimee (Thomas) Snyder, Thomas Deimerly, Jessica (Heath) Brewer, Jeanette Locke, Abby Locke, Sara Nail; two great grandchildren, Thomas Jordan and Spencer Snyder; and one sister, Delores Rogers of Walnut Creek, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ray.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames is handling the arrangements.
