THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, November 1, 2005.

James Sterling Westvold, 65, died Oct, 27, in the arms of his children and holding the Bible given to him in childhood by his grandparents.

Jim grew up in Ames, but spent most of his life in the California Bay Area. He was a talented graphic artist, first with the Atomic Energy Commission in Ames and then with the Stanford Research Institute in Palo Alto. He was an inveterate collector and never missed a flea market. He enjoyed good friends, a good garage sale and the San Francisco 49ers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Stella Ford Westvold, and one sister, Laurie.

He is survived by his daughter, Kirstin (Rich) Westvold-Freitas of Menlo Park, Calif.; one son, Todd (Sarah) Marckmann of Des Moines; and four grandchildren. He leaves brothers Steven and Warren Westvold, sisters Carolyn Toftey and Karen Scheuermann and good friend Jean Miller Westvold.
