CHARLIE SMITH AN OLD RESIDENT
Had Lived on Same Farm 59 Years, Coming with His Parents in 1874
The funeral of Charles A. Smith was held Monday afternoon in the Grace church and interment was made in the family lot at Center cemetery. Rev. Fuller officiated, and the singing was done by the Misses Mildred and Hazel Lee and Alice Fuller, with Margaret Fuller at the piano. Pallbearers were: Mathias Johnson, Matt Oswald, Charles Tressler, John N. Johnson, George Baldus and Henry Springman.
Obituary
Rev. Fuller read the following obituary at the funeral:
Charles A. Smith was born in Union county, Pennsylvania, June 19, 1862, and died at Story City, Iowa, October 6, 1933, at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 17 days.
He moved with his parents to Story county on the farm on which he died 59 years ago this October. He spent that entire 59 years on the same farm.
Death followed the third stroke in six years. Mr. Smith was a man who was quiet and well thought of by his friends and neighbors. He was a man who would not hurt anyone.
He leaves to mourn his death four sisters and two brothers. The sisters are Sarah Jane and Mary of Story City, Mrs. Gertie Jackson of Gilbert and Mrs. Cora Cassady of Elk Point, S. D. The brothers are James and Oscar of Story City.
Among those from a distance at the funeral were the following: R. D. and Guy Beechler, and Leon Criss (cousins of the deceased) of Sac City.
