THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, October 25, 2005.

Alma Marie Elwell Merkel, 96, died Friday, Oct. 21, in Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Merkel, two sons, Royalance and Charles, and one daughter, Doris.

She is survived by five daughters, Vergie Colt of Kingwood, Texas, Gladys Peter of Story City, Pauline McGinty of Minneapolis, Georgia Eich of Marshalltown and Jean Koelsch of Colo. She is survived by 23 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grand children; and her younger sister, Hazel.

Visitation will be from 3 tp 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Soderstrum Funeral Home with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, Grace United Methodist Church, Story City, with burial in McCallsburg Cemetery following the service.
