LAID TO REST

Funeral of Leslie Thompson Held Last Thursday

Funeral services for Leslie Thompson, whose death occurred last Wednesday evening were held on the lawn at the Thompson home Thursday afternoon and interment was made in the Roland cemetery. Only the immediate relatives and close friends and neighbors of the deceased were in attendance at the services, which were conducted by Rev. J. N. Sandven. The Thompson home will be quarantined for some time, and when the quarantine is lifted, memorial services will be held at Salem church of which the deceased was a member.

Arthur Leslie Thompson was born on the Thompson farm 6 1/2 southeast of Roland, September 30, 1899, and died at his home in Roland Wednesday, September 23, 1925, being almost 26 years at the time of his death. He moved to Roland with his parents in the fall of 1911, and has lived here with his mother and sisters since that time, his father, Amond Thompson, having passed away a few years after they moved to town.

He graduated from the Roland High School in the spring of 1917, and in the fall of 1918 attended the Students Army Training camp at Grinnell college at Grinnell. Since that time he has been employed at the Etna Drug company store, and at other places in Roland, the past two years he has been employed at the post office as assistant to the postmaster.

Leslie had a happy nature and had many friends who will miss his jovial presence, and his passing is a distinct loss to his mother and sister, who are left alone at home. He was a member of the Roland Post 307 of the American Legion, he being the first member of the post to pass away since its organization seven years ago.

He leaves to mourn his death, his mother, Mrs. Inger Thompson, and sister, Miss Sylva Thompson, who were with him at the time of his death and are at present confined to the home on account of the quarantine, his sisters Mrs. O. G. Twedt, Mrs. Wier Nelson of Hampton, and Mrs. Jeffrey Michaelson, and one brother, Tollef A. Thompson of Burbank, S.D., besides numerous other relatives and friends.

Those from out of town at the funeral services Thursday were Mr. and Mrs. Wier Nelson of Hampton, and Misses Agnes Hall and Burdella Egeland from Des Moines.
