TOM MILLER LAID TO REST.

As the Herald briefly announced last week, T. C. Miller passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 11, at ten o'clock. The funeral was held from the St. Petri church on Sunday afternoon, having been transferred from the Bethel church on account of the latter's inadequate size. Even the St. Petri church proved too small to accommodate the people who attended the funeral. Every seat was taken, the aisles and hallway were crowded and quite a few were compelled to return home for lack of room. Rev. Paulsrud preached a very touching sermon, taking for his text the burial of Stephen, as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. He drew an impressive picture of the influence of a man's life when thoroughly consecrated to the Lord, and before he was through there was scarcely a dry eye in the big audience.

Mr. Miller was born in Denmark, Feb. 13, 1864, bein thus at the time of his death 43 years and 10 months old. He came to this country with his parents when he was nine years of age, since which time he has resided in Iowa--most of the time in Story county. He was married Oct. 15, 1884, to Julia Stevens [Stevenson?]. Eight children resulted from this union, seven of whom preceded their father to the better land, leaving the wife and one daughter, Julia, to mourn his loss.

It was the privilege of the writer to have known the deceased for upwards of thirty years. He knew Mr. Miller to be a warm-hearted and earnest man. Even before his conversion about five years ago, he was whole-hearted in everything he undertook. He never hesitated to show his colors, and, as Rev. Paulsrud said in his funeral sermon, when he served the world he did it un reservedly and when he gave his heart to God he held nothing back. Of Mr. Miller it can be truthfully said that his last years were the best of his life. Though afflicted with the ailment which he believed would carry him off at any moment, yet he went about his duties in an energetic manner from day to day, apparently confident that "no ill can reach him who puts his trust in the King of Kings."

The widow and daughter have the sympathy of the entire community in the severe loss which they have sustained.
