FIRST DEATH FROM SLEEPING SICKNESS

Frank Nash Succumbs to Strange New Disease

Frank Nash, who was taken down with the strange new disease known as the "sleeping sickness" several weeks ago, died at the Story City sanitarium at an early hour Sunday morning.

At first it was difficult to believe that this malady had invaded our community, but as time went on the symptoms were unmistakable, and Frank gradually sank into a coma from which there was no awakening.

The funeral services were held in Grace church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Wendel officiating. The interment was made at the Sheffield cemetery.

This is the second case of sleeping sickness that has invaded this community. Miss Myrtle Hetland of near Radcliffe was taken down with the disease several weeks ago, about the time that Nash was. She was treated in the local sanitarium, and her recovery was rapid and we understand she is now as well as ever.

Obituary

Frank S. Nash was born near Story City, Iowa, December 2, 1872, and died at Story City, Ia., March 30th, 1919, at 2:30 A. M., at the Story City Hospital. Frank lived and grew to manhood on the farm six miles southeast of Story City. He was a son of M. D. and Rose E. Nash.

April, 1904, he was united in marriage to Anna Jondall of near Story City. To this union was born one son, Arthur Rollin. In January 19th, 1907, the wife died leaving Arthur, then a little one 19 months old. The grandparents cared for Arthur, and Frank also made his home with them.

The father, M. D. Nash, died April 14, 1912. Frank then cared for his mother and little son as long as the mother could care for the home.

Frank had many friends in the community in which he lived who will miss him.

Those left to mourn his death are: his son, Arthur; his mother, Mrs. Rose E. Nash of Oilie, Mont.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Bickelhaupt of Story City; three brothers, A. W. Nash, Ollie, Mont.; Will Nash, Miles City, Mont.; Sidney Nash, Black Diamond, Wash.; and many other relatives and friends. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.
