From Story City Herald January 16, 1908 (page 1)

M. A. TENDELAND.

The last summons came to our former fellow townsman, M. A. Tendeland, in Sioux City, at 4 o'clock Thursday morning, Jan. 9, 1908. The announcement of his death came as a great shock to his many friends as very few had heard of his illness, which was a brief one. He took sick with pneumonia, and died within a week.

The funeral was held from the home in Sioux City t 2 o'clock, Sunday, Jan. 12 and at St. Johns Norwegian Lutheran church at 3 o'clock, Rev. E. Johnson officiating. All the children were at the funeral, and also Mr. Alex Henderson and Rev. Jacobson. Mrs. Henderson and Julius had arrived in time to bid their father the last farewell.

Michael A. Tendeland was born in Naerstand, Stavangers Amt, Norway, Jan. 31, 1841, having thus filled his 66th year at the time of his death. He came to America in the early 60s and settled in Illinois a short time. He came to Iowa a few years later, and on July 4, 1873, was married to Gertie B. Jacobs. Three children were born to this union, all of whom, with the widow, survive him. The children are Mrs. Alex Henderson of Story City, Mrs. Rev. Jacobson of Viroqua, Wis., and Julius O., who we understand will continue his father's wholesale butter and egg business in Sioux City. Mrs. Tendeland will make her home with her son at the latter place.

The Tendelands made their home in Story City for about a quarter of a century (having moved from here ten years ago) and for a long time were active in the town's business and social life. Mr. Tendeland was a member of the Bethel church while here and is held in kind remembrance by a host of friends. Quiet and unassuming in his manner, kind in heart and genial in disposition, he will be greatly missed by those who came in closest contact with him.
