OBITUARY

Franklin Perry Sawyer was born August 23, 1857, in Porter county, Ind., and moved with his parents to Iowa in 1873, locating in Franklin Township, Story county, where, with the exception of two years spent in Sac county, he has since resided.

He was married to Louisa Briley, Nov. 20, 1878. To this union were born twelve children, two of whom preceded their father into the Great Beyond, and the two, Delno and Otho, who reside in Colorado, were unable to get here for the funeral. The rest of the children with the bereaved wife were present.

Mr. Sawyer was of a very fine type physically, and the last two or three years has been slowly but surely gradually declining in health.

He celebrated his 54th birthday on the 23rd of August, with a small company of relatives and friends, at his home, and though very weak at the time, appeared to be free from any organic trouble. He was taken quite ill on Tuesday the 29th of August; gradually from that time lost strength ad consciousness, until the end came peacefully at 3:30 o'clock Saturday morning September 2nd.

Mr. Sawyer was a very religious man and took delight in the study of the Bible. He united with the Christian church at the age of 15 years, in Porter county, Inc., and worshipped with that denomination until in very recent years he found it more convenient to unite with the Gilbert Congregational church, of which he was a devout and consistent member at the time of his death.

In his home as father and husband, he was kind, generous and considerate; as a public citizen, was patriotic and liberal almost to a fault, in business dealings he was exceedingly conscientious and though for several years actively engaged in a business which brought him in contact with the whole community, he passes from our midst without an enemy, and his every acquaintance was his friend. Those of us who were fortunate enough to know Mr. Sawyer in his life, know that all is well with him in death.

Those of the children that could be with the mother at the time of their father's death were: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tressler, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Templeton, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Musgrove, and Mr. and Mrs. Clark Scott, Messrs. Earl and James Sawyer and Amiel Mathison and Queen Sawyer.
