OBITUARY
MRS. INGEBORG EGLAND
Mother is no more. She has gone to her last resting place, and I miss her very much. To part with mother was very hard.
When I saw that the end was drawing near I told her that we had to part and asked her if she was sure of going to heaven. She said "I am ready to go, and I know my time is up." And she went to sleep, the last long sleep. Dear reader, have you ever thought what it would be to go down into that long sleep without hope?
Mrs. Ingeborg Charlson-Egland was born in Aardal, near Stavanger, Norway, February 21, 1821. Her parents were Erick and Guri Egland. The happy days of her youth were spent there, and she was married to Knut Olson, with whom she had three children, all of whom died young.
Her first husband died in Norway and she immigrated to America in 1856, settling first in Illinois, where she lived about three years. Here she met and married Barney Charlson Hagen. To this union were born five children, three of whom have gone to the better land. She moved to Iowa over fifty years ago and resided here until a little over a year ago, when she moved to Forest City with us. The second husband died 22 years ago.
She died June 27, 1911, at the ripe old age of 89 years, 6 months and 6 days.
She had been growing weaker and weaker from old age for some years, but was sick only a few days before her death. She always prayed for a quiet and peaceful end, which she got. There was no struggle and the doctor said that there was not much pain.
Two nights before she died she prayed and sang all night, and she said "Annie, you must help me." This I did as best I could. It is no easy matter to stand face to face with death, but some day I hope to meet my mother in that world where there shall be no more tears and where parting is no more.
May God help us all to remember that life is short and that soon we shall be called before the great Judge to give an account of our stewardship.
She was buried in the Story City cemetery beside her three daughters; the place she had pointed out some time ago.
