OBITUARY.

HANS PEDERSON.[sic]

Hans Pederson was born in Denmark in 1843 and died at his home northwest of Story City June 8, 1911, at the age of 87 years, 11 weeks and 1 day. The funeral was held on June 12th, Rev. Halvorson officiating both at the home and the church, speaking relatives and a word of exhortation to the large number who attended the funeral.

Mr. Pederson immigrated to America in 1869, at the age of 25 years, and for time worked around at whatever he could get to do. He was courageous and cheerful, making friends of whoever made his acquaintance. In 1871 his mother, sister and three brothers joined him from Denmark, as he had informed them of the better prospects for the laboring man in this country. His mother did not live long after coming here, but she had the joy of seeing her children in comfortable circumstances before her departure. Shortly after her death, the youngest brother also died, March 8, 1878.

After living in Marshalltown a few years Hans Pedersen, together with his brothers, came to Story county and bought farms out in Section 6, where he had since made his home.

His sister, Mrs. Frederick Anderson, died last summer, and his two brothers are thus the only ones left of the family, namely, A. Pederson of Story City and P. Pederson of Jewell.

He broke his right leg four years ago, which gave him great pain for a time, and since then he has had a complication of maladies. Throughout all, however, he bore his trials with patience, and when he came to the conclusion that he was not long for this earth he said he was satisfied to be called hence.

Hans Pederson, through a life of probity and honor, made himself respected by all with whom he had any dealing. Those who knew him best thought the most of him. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and father-in-law, who feel his demise very keenly.

Peace be to his dust and blessed be his memory.
