OBITUARY
MRS. THEODORE HANSEN
Mrs. Theodore Hansen was born in Cleremont county, Ohio, in 1841, and died in Story City Dec. 26, 1911, having thus attained to the allotted length of life--three score and ten.
She was married in 1857 at Utica, Ill., to John P. Crosiar and to this union ten children were born, of whom six are now living--five boys and one girl. Mr. Crosier died in 1896.
In 1902 she moved to Story county and in January, 1905, she was married to Theodore Hansen and since that time had made her home in Story City. In these few years she proved herself a most lovable woman, being a good neighbor and making friends readily. She was one of those whole-souled persons whom it is always a pleasure to meet; she had a kind word and a cheery greeting at all times.
Mrs. Hansen was feeling quite as well as usual on Christmas Day, though she had never fully recovered from the stroke of paralysis she suffered about twenty months ago. Toward evening, however, she took sick and at eight o'clock a doctor had to be summoned. He was called again the next morning, and again after noon, and at 5:25 she passed into the great beyond.
The funeral services were held on Friday at the St. Petri church. Rev. Vangsnes preaching the funeral sermon from the words in Revelation: "Blessed are they that die in the Lord." In the sermon the pastor bore eloquent tribute to the good qualities of the deceased, and the floral pieces were very beautiful.
Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Chas. Crosier of Harlan, Mr. and Mrs. Everet Crosier of Utica, Ill., Mrs. Lottie Voge and son and two daughters of Portsmouth, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Nelson of Boone, Mr. and Mrs. Soren Hanson of Ellsworth and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jacobson of Route 2. The latter are cousins of Mr. Hansen.
Mr. Hansen's son and daughter would have attended the funeral but on account of some misdirection of the telegraphic message they did not learn of Mrs. Hansen's death in time to get here.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Mary Evelyn Holland married John Perry Crosiar on 9 December 1857 in LaSalle County, Illinois. John is listed as John Corsair in the marriage record. Mary later married Theodore Hansen on 31 January 1905 in Story County, Iowa. This marriage record lists Mary as Mary McFarlan nee Holland and Theodore as Ole Theodore Hanson. Mary was apparently married to a Mr. McFarlan between 1896 (when John P. Crosiar died) and 1905 (when she married Mr. Hansen.) I have been unable to find record of this marriage.
Also, I have indexed Mrs. Lottie Voge, mentioned above, as she is Charlotte Crosiar Voge, Mrs. Hansen's daughter.
