OBITUARY.
Mrs. C. J. Charlson (Gonla Sandvig) was born in Skaanevik, Norway, Jan 17, 1847 and died at her home in Story City, Iowa, Mar. 25, 1914, aged 67 years, 2 months and 8 days. She was the youngest of nine children. In 1857 at the age of ten, she with her mother, one brother and two sister emigrated to America and settled in Kendall county, Ill., to which place three of her brothers and two of her sisters had emigrated before. Her father died in Norway a short time before they left for America. Of her brothers and sisters two remain, Mr. Peter Johnson and Mrs. Guro Thompson, both of Helmat, Ill.
On Dec. 23, 1871 she was married to Mr. C. J. Charlson, of Story City by Rev. P. A. Rasmussen at his residence south of Yorkville, Ill. Rev. Rasmussen was also the minister who confirmed her. To this union were born eleven children, three of whom are dead. The remaining children are Josie (Mrs. G. T. Johnson) Belmond; Helen, Iowa Center, Wyo.; Elmer, Forest City; Edward, Story City; Belle (Mrs. C. O. Downing), Iowa Center, Wyo.; Lenora (Mrs. J. M. Mehl), Nellie and Cora, Story City.
There are eight grandchildren. Mrs. Charlson's husband died Aug. 14, 1913. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Charlson resided in this community from the year after their marriage until their death.
The funeral of Mrs. Charlson was held in the St. Petri church Monday afternoon. Rev. Solum preached and conducted the services in Norwegian. Rev. Harned of Dunlap, the father of Mrs. Edward Charlson, was present at the funeral and upon request of Rev. Solum, also spoke a few words of comfort in English. The church was completely filled with relatives and friends of the deceased who had come to pay their last respects to the one they loved so well.
