OBITUARY OF JOHN SAMPSON
John Sampson a brother of Iver and Askel Sampson of this place passed away at his home near Grand Mound, Iowa, on Saturday, September 13. He was born at Helvig, Norway on December 10, 1846 and in 1866 he came to this country with his parents and settled on a farm near Grand Mound, where he has since resided. On September 17, 1874 he was married to Ingeborg Halverson, and had he lived four more days, he would have celebrated his golden wedding anniversary. To this union eleven children were born, of whom two sons and five daughters survive. He passed away suddenly on Saturday morning from heart failure.
He leaves besides his wife, two sons, Sam and Edward and five daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Vetter, Mrs. John A. Hayes, Mrs. LeRoy Keith, Inga and Edith Sampson, eight brothers, Iver and Askel of this place, Sam of McCallsburg, Andrew of Bemidji, Minn., Ole of Butterfield, Minn., Mrs. Anna Sime, Christ, John and Oscar of Radcliffe. Two brothers Iver and Abel and one sister, Mrs. Anna Seglem having preceded him.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 16 from the Norwegian Lutheran church at Grand Mound, Rev. Huseth conducting the service.
