He was maarried to Reka Schuldt Feb. 18, 1870, and in 1876 he moved with his family to Boone county, Iowa, settling on a farm near Mackey, where he lived 42 years. He was one of the early pioneer settlers and endured many hardships which he bore with much patience, always trusting in the Lord. He was in his usual good health until last March when his health began to fail him. The cause of his death was dropsy. During all this time he suffered patiently and when the end came he was reconciled to heed the call of his Master.
