OBITUARY
Gust Hanson
Gust Hanson died at his home in Story City Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1926, and the funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Immanuel's church, Rev. T. T. Heimarck officiating. Interment was made in the Story City cemetery. Six of his sons acted as pall bearers.
Gust Hanson was born August 14, 1844, at Kvinherred, Norway. He came to America the age of 20, going first to Clinton county, where he made his home on a farm.
He was married Dec. 6th, 1876, to Johanna Roe and five years later moved to Story county to live on a farm southwest of Story City. To this union ten children were born; the fifth oldest died in infancy. The children are: Hans, Ole, Mrs. Albert Johnson, Martin, Augustine, Albert, Cornelius, Clarence and Sam, all living in Story City and vicinity.
In 1902 he retired from farming and moved to Story City, where he spent the remaining years.
He also leaves 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
If he had lived until next Dec. 6 he would have celebrated his golden wedding anniversary.
Mr. Hanson had been failing in health for several years and had been confined to his bed three weeks. He died at 5:00 o'clock Tuesday morning, Jan. 5, 1926, at his home, being 81 years, 4 months and 21 days old at the time of his death.
He was one of the early settlers of this community and a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran church since it was organized here.
