Death of Mrs. Hanneman

Mrs. Caroline Hanneman died at her home west of Gilbert on Thursday, March 22, 1923. She had suffered long and patiently with a hardening of the arteries and when pneumonia attacked her enfeebled body she was unable to overcome it.

Caroline Dietz Hannaman [sic] was born December 13, 1851, in Somerset, Penn. When but a child she was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Pennsylvania. She moved to Iowa with her parents, who located near Cedar Rapids at an early age. She became a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Marion, where her faith remained until her death.

She was united in marriage to Michael Hanneman May 6, 1879, at Marion, after which they moved to Cedar Rapids, at which place they resided until 38 years ago when they moved to Boone county, Iowa. Two sons were born to this union, John and Charles, who both survive.

A niece, Carrie Snyder, made her home with the family since she was a child and has faithfully cared for her in her illness.

Mr. Hanneman passed away July 9, 1912 and Mrs. Hanneman followed her husband March 22, 1923. Although she was not a member of the Congregational Church of this place, she was very devoted to its cause and always interested in its welfare, always a generous contributor to its support. She will be greatly missed by the Congregational Church. She was a patient sufferer and always cheerful and a devoted Christian.

She leaves to mourn her loss two sons John and Charles, one brother, Will Deitz of Cedar Rapids, a sister, Mrs. Louise of Kansas City, Kan., a number of relatives and a host of friends. But what is their loss is her gain.

In the passing of Mrs. Hanneman the community has lost one of its pioneer citizens, the surviving children a loving mother and the neighborhood a kind and true friend.

Rev. E. L. Anderson officiated at her funeral, Saturday, March 24th.
